Football

Football is a team sport played between two teams, typically consisting of eleven players each. The objective of the game is to score goals by getting a ball into the opposing team’s net, primarily by using feet, although players may use other parts of their bodies except for the hands and arms (goalkeepers being an exception). The sport is known in many countries as “soccer,” particularly in the United States and Canada, to differentiate it from American football, which is a distinct sport.

Football is governed by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) at the international level, and it is played under a set of rules known as the Laws of the Game. The sport is characterized by its fluid gameplay, with matches typically lasting 90 minutes, divided into two halves. It is one of the most popular sports globally, boasting a massive following and numerous professional leagues, tournaments, and international competitions, including the FIFA World Cup. Football promotes teamwork, strategy, and physical fitness while fostering global camaraderie among players and fans alike.
